Education

1963-1967 – student of Rokai elementary school.

1967-1974 – student of Kaunas secondary school No. 13.

1974-1979 – student of the Faculty of History of the Vilnius University.

1984-1989 – student of the Faculty of Law of the Vilnius University.

 

Career

1979-1985 – Head of Information division, Kaunas branch of the Lithuanian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information.

1985-1990 – Inspector and head of General affairs department, Executive committee (Municipal administration) of the city and district of Kaunas.

1990-1995 – Head of General affairs department, Municipal Administration of the City of Kaunas.

1995-1997 – Administrative officer, Municipal Administration of the City of Kaunas.

1997 – Governor of Kaunas County.

2000-2003, 2003-2007 – member of the Municipal Council of the City of Kaunas.

 

Awards

- Letter of acknowledgement from the Municipal Council of Kaunas for the activity during the reorganization of municipal administration after the Independence.

- Commemorative medal of the Pope John Paul II visit.

- “Commandor” Royal order of Norway, 1999.

-Commemorative medal of the Physical Culture and Sports Department.

- “Olympic star” award of the Lithuanian National Olympic committee.

 

Public activity

-Participated in the activity of Sajudis (Pro-independence movement in 1988-1992).

-Worked in the organizational committee of Pope John Paul II’s visit into Lithuania.

1992-2004 – President, Lithuanian skating federation.

1998-2004 – Head, Kaunas branch of Lithuanian national Olympic committee.

2000-2003 – Vice-president, “Atletas” sports club.

1999-2004 – Founder and chairman of council of Lithuanian family farmers association.

–Member of the Board of Lithuanian Agricultural Chamber.

English and Russian.

 

Interests and hobbies

Photography, travels, skating, bicycle riding, excursion into free nature(mushroom and berry gathering).

 

Family

Married, spouse Rasa – formerly engineer, now farmer. Daughters Živilė and Raminta and son Kazimieras.
